Parent and Grandparent Super Visa Insurance
Many Canadians have parents or grandparents that live in another country and bringing them over to Canada for an extended visit has just gotten easier. As of December 1, 2011, the Canadian government launched the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa. The special visa allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents to come and stay in Canada as a visitor for a period up to 2 consecutive years. The visa can remain valid for up to 10 years and allow for re-entry during this time. In order for a Parent/Grandparent to enter Canada on a Super Visa, they MUST have valid Canadian Medical Insurance coverage in place. This coverage is to be effective upon arrival into Canada and be in place for at least a 1 year. However, this is all to be arranged prior to their arrival or they won’t be allowed into the country.
At HDF Insurance, we offer this medical insurance coverage and it can easily be purchased by the Canadian host/family member.
What Does Super Visa Medical Insurance cover?
Super Visa Medical Insurance protects the visitor against the cost of medical bills, should they require emergency medical treatment. This could be caused by an accident or illness that occurs while they are in Canada. Such expenses as hospital visits, ambulance service, and pharmaceutical drugs are covered under the plan.
What is NOT covered under Super Visa Medical Insurance
As this coverage is meant to treat unexpected medical emergencies only, routine dental visits are not covered. Neither are routine doctor visits as well as treatments for unstable health conditions that were diagnosed before leaving the country of origin.
